How long does Invisalign take?

Depending on the complexity of the case, Invisalign can typically range from 4 months to 16 months, with the average case lasting between 6-8 months.

Can Invisalign fix my overbite?

Does Invisalign Hurt?

The soreness during Invisalign typically peaks the first 2-3 days after starting treatment and improves drastically from there. The pain with Invisalign compared to traditional braces is much less, and only about half our patients will require 1-2 over the counter pain tablets throughout the course of their treatment.

Am I a candidate for Invisalign?

How does Invisalign work?

Your dentist develops a treatment plan that coordinates the exact movements of your teeth to finish in an ideal position. Clear plastic trays are then 3D printed and designed to apply specific forces to get the teeth moving as planned. Each tray shifts your teeth closer and closer to the end result, with new trays being inserted every 10 days.

Can a general dentist do Invisalign?

General dentists are able to treat patients with Invisalign, and in fact, there are many benefits to this. Having Invisalign completed in the same office where you go for all your dental needs makes it easier and more convenient for the dentist to track your progress as you come in for cleanings or any other dental work that may be needed. Additionally, in complex cases where we need to create room for crowns or veneers, the doctor can place the teeth exactly where he needs them to be, thus allowing your case to have a more predictable outcome.

Is Invisalign better than braces?

Both options have their strengths. While traditional metal braces are sometimes necessary for more complex cases in growing teenagers, the benefit to Invisalign is that teeth can be planned and placed exactly where the doctor wants them to be utilizing digital technology. Invisalign has the added advantage of improved esthetics with clear trays instead of metal brackets and can have less of an impact on your daily routine. Patients are also able to keep their teeth cleaner without brackets and wires which allow food to get trapped.

Does Invisalign work with crowns, bridges, implants, or veneers?

Yes! This is one of the advantages to using Invisalign. The plastic can engage and move teeth without having to bond or attach anything to your previous dental work, unlike traditional braces where brackets have to be bonded to those teeth. In patients with implants or bridges, a special plan can be customized for you so that there are no excessive forces on those teeth.

How long do Invisalign trays need to be worn for?

In order to be effective, the trays need to be worn for 20-22 hours a day. The trays should be worn while you are sleeping and throughout the day, however the only time the trays are to be taken out is to brush your teeth and to eat. Once you are done eating or brushing, the trays should be put back in.e Content

what can I eat during my Invisalign treatment?

Since the Invisalign trays are taken out while eating, there usually aren’t any restrictions on what you can eat! Unlike traditional braces, you don’t have to worry about hard foods popping off metal brackets or wires poking you.

Can I drink coffee or tea with my Invisalign trays in?

Yes you can drink coffee or tea while your Invisalign trays are in. In order to reduce stain buildup, we recommend drinking through a straw and brushing (or rinsing) your trays under water once you are done. We also recommend allowing your beverage to cool down slightly to prevent any heat damage to the plastic trays

How often do I need to brush with Invisalign?

You should continue to brush your teeth and trays at least twice a day, preferably right after your meal. Brushing three times a day isn’t necessary, but it may help prevent some stain buildup on the trays.

Will my teeth stay straight after Invisalign?

once you invisalign treatment is complete, your doctor will scan your teeth and order a set of custom retainers. The retainers are to be worn every night in order to prevent the teeth from shifting back. These retainers are made of a clear plastic material similar to that of the Invisalign trays and work great to help prevent any tooth wear from nighttime clenching or grinding.

How long do the retainers last for?

The average lifespan of the retainers is about 3-5 years, but a lot depends on the patient. If the patient grinds their teeth while sleeping, the trays may wear down quicker. But for patients who have mild to no grinding, their trays can last well over 5 years.

Louis Asimakopoulos, DMD

Born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, Dr. Louis is a general dentist in Schaumburg, IL who completed his training at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois.

His passion for being up to date with the newest technologies and ability to manage complex cases led him to attend one of the most renowned residencies in the nation at the University of California, Los Angeles. While at UCLA he was trained in implants, periodontics and tissue grafting, root canals, sinus lifts, bone grafts, and management of complex cases. He received a degree in their Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program and had hands-on training from some of the most prominent figures in dentistry.

Dr. Louis has spent a lot of time in his independent studies developing techniques to address and overcome some of the most common problems in dentistry, such as sensitivity after dental work and removing any pain during the injection. He believes that with all of the current materials at our disposal, no one should experience pain during or after their dental treatment. Dr. Louis is glad to finally be under one roof with his brother (Dr. Jon), as they can now combine their knowledge to formulate the best plan for each individual patient and provide top tier service. Realizing that a personal relationship with your healthcare provider is the first step in creating trust and comfort, Dr. Louis will always take time in getting to know you and encourages you to ask any questions!

Dr. Jon graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, which consistently holds it’s place as the top dental school in the US. There he served as the Vice President of his class and received several awards for his commitment and proficiency in the fields of endodontics, general dentistry and cosmetic dentistry.

Over the last five years he has built his reputation around quality treatment that lasts, patient comfort, and an overall conservative approach to treatment. One of the most rewarding aspects of dentistry to Dr. Jon is working together with patients to help them achieve the smile they’ve always wanted. As a top Invisalign® provider, he has been able to experience first-hand the numerous transformations in his patient’s confidence once their crowded teeth or uneven smile has been corrected.

Dr. Gurgul

Dr. Gurgul views dentistry as a blend of human connection, science, and art. He believes that optimal oral health and patient satisfaction can only be achieved by connecting with patients and understanding their dental needs and goals.

Dr. Gurgul was born in Poland and immigrated to Chicago at the age of ten. Before graduating from Marquette University School of Dentistry in 2019, he studied and majored in psychology at Loyola University. During his undergraduate studies, he became interested in dentistry and worked as a dental assistant to better understand the profession. As a dental assistant he recognized how transformative dental care can be to patients and their lives. In school, he learned how imperative it is to listen to, understand, and educate patients in order to produce best results and oral health.

Dr. Gurgul previously has worked as a general dentist providing comprehensive dental care in Chicago. Through continuing education courses he stays current with the ever evolving oral healthcare. Outside of dentistry, Dr. Gurgul enjoys swimming, biking, and spending time with his wife and son. He is excited and honored to provide safe and comfortable dental care and education to adult and pediatric patients to the Schaumburg community.
