Invisalign at Any Age (Teens and Adults)

Invisalign at Any Age (Teens and Adults)

Clear aligners have appealed to adults ever since its introduction into the dental field. Here at Schaumburg Dentistry we provide Invisalign for teens and adults of all ages.

Instead of conceding to a mouth full of metal wires and brackets as an adult, straight teeth are now within grasp by utilizing a system of clear plastic aligners.

With Invisalign treatment, you are able work and enjoy socializing with your friends and family without any conflict in your daily routine or lifestyle!

Take a look at some of our before and after images for those who used Invisalign, and you can see how this treatment has yielded great results for our patients. And it’s not just teens or young adults seeking out this treatment.

We are seeing an increase in demand for Invisalign from even those entering retirement. It is never too late to improve your oral structure and discover a new confidence in your smile.

The Basic Process of Invisalign

Your tailor made plan to straighten and align your teeth is developed by your doctor utilizing an advanced treatment software.

Once the plan is approved, the Invisalign trays are manufactured and shipped out to the dentist providing your treatment.

You are typically given a set of 3-6 trays up front, each tray being worn 7-14 days depending on the complexity of the case.

Then, every 1-2 months you will schedule a follow up appointment to get a new set of trays and the doctor will check the progress of the teeth to ensure they are moving as planned.

Once the teeth have achieved their final position, your doctor will give you a retainer to be worn every night while you sleep to prevent the teeth from relapsing.

Indications for Invisalign Treatment

What many people don’t realize is that Invisalign treatment is used for other orthodontic problems outside of just “crooked teeth”,  including:

  • Overbites
  • Under Bites
  • Cross Bites
  • Open Bites
  • Spacing and gaps
  • Crowding

Since the trays are removable, there is no learning curve required for basic oral care. With conventional metal braces, unique approaches for flossing and brushing are taught to prevent heavy plaque and stain buildup.

This is not an issue with Invisalign due to the fact that you can remove the trays to brush and floss your teeth as usual. The only difference is that the trays should be brushed daily to keep them clean.

Another benefit of Invisalign is that the clear trays are customized to fit your teeth, so when wearing them out in the public, the effect it has on your speech is minimal and temporary.

Patients may notice a slight “lisp” for the first 24-48 hours, but once the tongue has adapted to the clear trays, your speech should resume back to normal.

Can Invisalign Be Used In Older Individuals?

As we mature, our teeth often suffer from cracks, fractures, cavities, tooth wear and so on.

This is why we tend to see more dental work in older populations. As teeth are restored with crowns, or replaced with bridges and implants, it can make it more difficult to undergo orthodontic treatment with traditional braces.

However, with Invisalign we are able to predictably improve a patient’s smile and correct their orthodontic issues.

The technology incorporated with Invisalign allows us to plan movements accordingly, while taking into consideration the patient’s existing dental conditions including crowns, implants and bridges.

Furthermore, by improving the patient’s bite and position of their teeth, it can help facilitate healthier gums and a more balanced bite. Thus, lowering the risk of further tooth breakdown and/or gums issues.

Having a healthy mouth is essential at any age, which is why Invisalign can be a great option for many patients looking to improve their smile.

Why Think About Them Later In Life?

More patients over the age of 50 are seeking out orthodontic treatment than ever before. As the value of teeth have increased over time, patients are no longer accepting dentures as a natural option for aging.

A few benefits of straightening your teeth include improved ease of oral hygiene and a more balanced bite, both of which can help improve the health and longevity of your teeth.

Aside from having a much healthier mouth, individuals enjoy straighter teeth due to the fact that they make you look and feel younger. The loss of teeth negatively affects lip support and facial structure.

So by improving your smile and tooth position, we are able to better maintain our oral health and hold on to our teeth even longer. Now thanks to Invisalign, you can do it easier than ever before!
